USB is the much easier solution, for this to work you need a compatible USB stick, I have always used a Kingston brand and have never had any problems. This is the exact USB stick I use for upgrading IOS on Cisco Switches. Kingston 32Gb USB Flash with Metal Casing. Insert the USB stick into the slot on the front of the Cisco 4500X switch as. If your router or switch has a USB port you will be able to insert that flash drive and with a few commands will be able to boot your device to that USB, copy the firmware to internal flash, and reboot again from the internal flash versus having to upload the image through the serial port or some other method. Ideally, USB flash can hold multiple copies of the Cisco IOS and multiple router configurations, and you can use it to easily move and copy those IOS files and configurations from router to router.

| PS -- It's not the USB I'm so interested in solving, it's getting the
| image onto the router. If I'm barking up the wrong tree, somebody
| tell me and suggest another way I can get it on there. Thanks again
Try using ftp.
